Section 2 Document Selector
Background and Introduction
Mitratech’s Tracker I-9 solution includes a Document Selection workflow that allows the Authorized Representative completing Section 2 to indicate which identity and work authorization document(s) the employee provides.
This guide introduces the new Document Selector, detailing its design and functionality within the Tracker I-9 user interface (UI). Starting with the Cape Town release (targeted to be deployed in early October 2025), the classic view will be retired, and only the new Document Selector will be available.
NEW Document Selector: Summary of Changes
The new Document Selector maintains the same workflow as the classic version, with the following key enhancements:
- Guided Instructions - An in-app guide helps users navigate the new workflow step by step.
- Fewer Clicks - Documents can be selected more quickly, even for complex foreign national hires (e.g., H-1B portability).
- Mobile First Design - The mobile-responsive UI leverages the new Document Selector, addressing limitations of the classic design.

UI Availability of the New Document Selector
The new Document Selector appears whenever a user navigates to Section 2, whether onsite or remote, for a new or amended I-9. It works similarly to the current Supplement B/Section 3 Document Selector.
Using the New Document Selector
Select Document Category
Choose whether the employee presented a List A document or List B and C documents. By default, List A (Both Identity & Employment Eligibility) is selected. Use the List B (Identity) and List C (Employment Authorization) tab to view the corresponding documents.
The system filters the documents to display only those valid for the chosen category based on the employee’s employment status that was entered in Section 1.
Select the appropriate radio button for the document(s) and click “Continue with Selected Document(s)” to proceed to the document data entry page.
Example: The screenshot below shows the New Document Selector with “List A” selected for an employee who is a U.S. Citizen, highlighting the U.S. Passport as the chosen document type.
System Response to Invalid Document Selection
Selecting a document flagged as Not Applicable (Inactive radio options) triggers a warning. The system identifies the mismatch between the chosen document and the employee’s employment status in Section 1 and prompts the user to correct the status or select another document.
Additional Document Workflow
For employees with temporary work authorization (Section 1 employment status is ‘A noncitizen (other than Item Numbers 2. and 3. above) authorized to work’), the New Document Selector displays the Additional Document workflow options alongside the Employment Authorization Document (I-766) and Foreign Passport with I-94 or I-94A. This design reduces the clicks needed to select an Additional Document workflow by 66%.
Document Information Modal
Clicking the information (“i”) icon next to any document type opens an information modal displaying details about the selected document (Description, Samples and Doc.# Locator, E-Verify Info).
To close the modal window, select either the “Close” button or the “X” icon.
