Start/Complete Property

Start/Complete Property

The Start and Complete stage properties are used to designate a start and end point for a workflow. All workflows must have a start stage, but it is possible to configure a workflow that does not have any Complete stages. Additionally, while a workflow can only have one Start stage, it can have multiple Complete stages if necessary.

A Start stage always designates the initial stage for a workflow. Anytime a record is run off of a template, it will begin on the stage designated as the Start stage.

A Complete stage designates an ending point for a workflow. If a workflow reaches a Complete stage during any point in the process, the status will change to the relationship related to that Complete stage, and the ‘Edit Request’ action will no longer be available for that record.

Users can configure Start and Complete stages by using the Start and Complete workflow properties. To do this, select a stage and then click one of the two properties. Applying the Start property will designate the selected stage as the starting point for the workflow, and will remove that designation from any other stage that may have previously been configured as the starting stage. Applying the Complete property will designate the selected stage as an end stage and will not affect any other stages that had previously been designated as end stages. This is because a workflow can have multiple end points, but only one starting point.

The workflow above is a simple three stage workflow. By default, the first stage that was added (Beginning) has been designated as the start stage. The last stage (End) was designated as the Final stage by clicking the stage, and then selecting the Complete stage property. A finish line flag is then added as an indicator of which stages have been designated as end stages.
