Search on Main Grid

This article describes how to search using the main grid. The following image is an example of the Matters module main grid.

The main filters are located at the top of the grid. The second row of filters are the multifilters.

Search with Main Filters

Note: For implementations that use an Oracle database, this search method is case-sensitive.

To search for a field using the main filters:

  1. Select a field or fields.
  2. Select an operator:
    • contains
    • equals
    • starts with

3. Enter the word or characters.

4. Click Find.

Narrow the search by using multifilters:

  1. Enter the word or characters.

  2. Select the filter(s) by clicking the filter icon, the available filters are:

    • contains
    • starts with
    • equals

  1. On the main filter section, click Find.

Note: If a filter is repeated in the main filter and the multifilter, the multifilter shows in gray.

You can use the main filters and the multifilters together or you can use either one of them. Note that some searches might return empty records.

Wildcards

The following table describes the wildcards that you can use to search for a pattern:

Symbol Description Examples
% The percent symbol represents zero or more characters. bl% finds bl, black, blue, and blob.
_ The underscore represents a single character. h_t finds hot, hat, and hit.
[] A string within square brackets means "find the string with any character within the brackets". h[oa]t finds hot and hat, but not hit.
^ The carat symbol represents negation and it works with the square brackets. h[^oa]t finds hit, but not hot and hat.
- The hyphen represents a range of characters within the brackets c[a-b]t finds cat and cbt.

Customize Multifilters

You can add customized filters from the fields that belong to the form to create the entity, matter, person, element, for example, in the Matters module, you can choose other fields such as Primary Legal Contact or a user field. To customize multi filters:

  1. Open eCounsel or Secretariat and select a module:
  • Matters
  • People
  • Entities, among others.
  1. On the main grid, select Options.

  1. Select the fields and click the double arrows >>.

  1. To select the order in which each field appears, select a field and click Up or Down to place it in the desired order.

  2. Click Ok.

  3. The fields appear on the multifilters section of the main grid.

Configure a Sort Order

Customize the filters sort order. You can set up to three fields to sort. For more information, see Working with Grids. To establish the sort order:

  1. Open eCounsel or Secretariat and select a module:
  • Matters
  • People
  • Entities, among others.
  1. On the main grid, select Options.

  2. On the Sort Order section, choose the fields and the sorting.

  1. Click Ok. The sort order shows on the main grid.

Reset Sort to Default

You can reset sort customizations done on a grid:

  1. Open eCounsel or Secretariat and select a module:
  • Matters
  • People
  • Entities, among others.
  1. On the main grid, select Options.

  2. On the List Options Reset section, select any of the following options:

Option Description
Clear Sort Reset the Sort Order section to its defaults.
Reset to Default Reset the grid multi filters to the default multifilters
Reset All Lists to Default Reset the multifilters to default in all grids
