Support for Form I-9 Edition 01/20/25
On April 2, 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published an updated version of Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification), introducing a new edition date of 01/20/25.
Key updates to the form include:
- Renaming the fourth checkbox in Section 1 to USCIS-designated language: “An alien authorized to work”.
- Revising descriptions for two List B documents in the Lists of Acceptable Documents.
- Adding updated statutory language and a revised DHS Privacy Notice to the instructions.
Electronic I-9 solutions are required to adopt this updated form by July 31, 2026. Until then, employers may continue using the 08/01/23 edition (expiring 07/31/2026).
With this release, Tracker I-9 now supports Form I-9 Edition 01/20/25, enabling customers to transition to the new form ahead of the mandated deadline.
Post-Release Behavior
All new Forms I-9 created after this release - whether through the Tracker I-9 user interface (UI) or via integrations - will be generated using the 01/20/25 edition.
Customer Impact & Compliance Guidance
No action is required at this time. Tracker I-9 has remained compliant by supporting a valid version of Form I-9 authorized for use during the regulatory transition period. USCIS permits continued use of the 08/01/23 edition through July 31, 2026, and customers have been - and remain—in compliance when using the application.
Updates to Historical I-9 and I-9 Resolve records to align with the new edition will be delivered in a future release.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue which prevented Client Admin users from being able to upload a file to the Employee Attachment when Remote Access I-9 is for Section 1 Only field under the Section 1 Remote Access Settings area of the Configurations\Features page.
- Fixed an issue where users with restricted access permissions were able to see I-9 records in search results for employees they were not assigned to.
- Fixed an issue related to the Email Template Customizationm feature where content changes made to the “Schedule I-9 Pro Appointment” template were not being applied, causing the system default email template to be sent instead.
