General Properties

In this chapter we discuss General properties of Custom Field Type Editor.

A Custom Field Type Editor is opened.

If the Date and Time field type is selected, the Accuracy field is displayed.

Term

Meaning

Name

A name by which to identify the Custom Field Type.
This field is mandatory. The Custom Field Type cannot be saved until this field is completed.

Field type

Select the field Type of the Custom Field Type. Select either a Base Field Type (see “Content Field, Extract an Account Name” for more information) or select an existing Custom Field Type on which to base the new Custom Field Type.

Base Field Type

  • Text – all characters are read as text.
  • Currency – can be positive or negative, contain up to 18 digits before the decimal point, a decimal point (for example . or , depending on Locale) and up to 10 digits after the decimal point. (The Locale is set in the Data Definition – see “Locale)
  • Whole Number – must only contain whole numbers (i.e. positive/ zero/negative).
  • Date and Time – must only contain dates and times. The format changes according to locale. For example, in the UK it is DD/MM/ YYYY hh:mm:ss. When Date and Time is selected, an additional field, Accuracy, is displayed. See “Accuracy” below for a description. (The Locale is set in the Data Definition – see “Locale)

Accuracy

Note: Accuracy is only available when Date and Time is selected as the field type.

Select the Accuracy from the drop-down list:

  • Time – Fields must include values for the Year, Month, Day and Time.
  • Day – Fields must contain values for the Year, Month and Day.
  • Month – Fields must contain values for the Year and Month.
  • Year – Fields must contain a value for the Year.

Help text

If required, select Override default and enter the Help text for the Custom Field Type. The Help text is displayed when a user clicks on the image next to the index field name in Indexing Studio.

ToolTip text

If required, select Override default and enter a ToolTip text for the Custom Field Type. ToolTips are displayed when the mouse pointer is hovered over the field.
