Data Explorer

The Data Explorer gives you access to unique data points and comparisons of actual work in progress across all of your matters, giving you a detailed and insightful view into your legal spend.

To access the Data Explorer, click the Navigation Toggle and click Data Explorer from the navigation pane.

Overview Tab

The Data Explorer Overview tab provides a synopsis of the following tabs:

  • Activity
  • Velocity
  • Task Codes

At the bottom of the page, an Entries list describes each time entry for the defined scope.

Activity Tab

The Data Explorer Activity tab analyzes activity data within the scope defined in Data Explorer.and includes the following information:

  • The Dollars widget shows the dollar sum of all entries within the defined scope.
  • The Hours widget the hourly sum of all entries within the defined scope.
  • The Time Entries widget  the number of individual entries within the defined scope.
  • An activity chart dynamically illustrates the daily breakdown of Dollars, Hours, and Time Entries. Use the sliders at the top of the chart to adjust the timeline range. To view a comparison between the total values and values defined by the current scope, hover over the values in the chart.
  • A comparison chart displays the highest, lowest, and average dollars, hours, and entries per day, timekeeper, and entry.
  • An Entries list describes each time entry for the defined scope.

Task Codes Tab

The Data Explorer Task Codes tab illustrates the LEDES codes associated with the Entries and the percent of activity that each represents within the date range defined by the current scope. You can view the graph by Entries, dollars, or hours by clicking the appropriate label to the left-of the table.

At the bottom of the page, an Entries list describes each time entry for the defined scope.

Velocity Tab

The Data Explorer Velocity tab analyzes velocity data within the scope defined in Data Explorer and includes the following information:

  • Cost per day - Total cost of all entries in scope divided by number of days in active range.
  • Average Delay - The average difference in days between when Time Entries are dated and when the Entry is added into the Timekeeping and Billing System within the defined scope.
  • Average Billable Age - The average difference in days between when work is performed for an Entry and when that Entry becomes Billable as part of an Invoice within the defined scope. Entries still WIP will count through the current day.
  • A velocity chart dynamically illustrates the timeline breakdown of work in dollars and the aging work-in-progress.
  • A comparison table displays the highest, lowest, and average entry delay and billable age per matter average, timekeeper average, and single entry.
  • An Entries list describes each time entry for the defined scope.

Matters Tab

The Data Explorer Matters tab analyzes data from active matters within the scope defined in Data Explorer and includes the following information:

  • The Timekeepers per Matter Ratio chart illustrates the total number of active matters and timekeepers on specific dates within the defined scope. To adjust the displayed timeline, use the sliders at the top of the chart.
  • A Matter Datapoints comparison table displays highest, lowest, and average data points across a variety of metrics within the defined scope.
  • The Matters list describes all matters that have active entries within the defined scope.
    • To view more information on a matter, click the matter name. The Data Explorer changes the scope to that specific matter and opens the Data Explorer Overview tab.
    • To view more information on an engagement, click the engagement name. The Data Explorer changes the scope to that specific engagement and opens the Data Explorer Overview tab.
    • To search for a matter in the list, click the search field and type your search criteria.
    • To view messages that involve the matter, click the Conversation icon in the Messages column. A red circle with a number displays on the icon if you have any unread messages for that matter.
    • To change the columns that are displayed, click the Display button and select or clear the appropriate checkboxes.
    • To sort the list by field, click the column heading for that field. Clicking the same column heading again changes the sort order either from ascending to descending, or vice versa.
    • To import the list into a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel, click the Export button to export the list to a CSV file and then import the file in the spreadsheet application.

Timekeepers Tab

The Data Explorer Timekeepers tab analyzes timekeeper data within the scope defined in Data Explorer and

The Data Explorer Timekeepers tab includes the following information:

  • The Daily Timekeeper Activity chart illustrates the total number of active timekeepers and entries on specific dates within the defined scope. To adjust the displayed timeline, use the sliders at the top of the chart.
  • The Timekeeper Datapoints comparison table displays the highest, lowest, and average data points across a variety of metrics within the defined scope.
  • The Timekeepers list describes all timekeepers who have reported work done within the defined scope.
    • To view more information on a timekeeper, click the timekeeper's name. The Data Explorer changes the scope to that specific timekeeper and opens the Data Explorer Overview tab.
    • To search for a timekeeper, click the search field and type your search criteria.
    • To change the columns that are displayed, click the Display button and select or clear the appropriate checkboxes.
    • To import the list into a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel, click the Export button to export the list to a CSV file and then import the file in the spreadsheet application.
