Searching

The search functions in Viewabill allow you to focus less on the query and more on the results. Viewabill uses a standard simple search capability throughout the interface, but in the Data Explorer and Inbox, you can also narrow the scope of your search using a faceted search. The faceted search allows you to narrow the scope of your results based on filters.

To narrow the scope using faceted search:

  1. Click inside the search field and select a filter category (such as Firm, Engagement, Matter, etc.) from the list that appears. A new list appears with the available subfilters.
  2. Scroll down the list to find your subfilter, or you can start typing to narrow the list. Click a subfilter to select it.
  3. To remove a filter, click the x that appears before the filter in the search box. To remove all of the filters, click the x on the right-hand side of the search field. You can also use the Backspace key to delete filters.

Depending on your filter categories, the scope uses Boolean elements to narrow the results:

  • When you enter more than one filter from the same filter category, the scope uses the Boolean OR to narrow the results. For example, if you use both of these filters:
    • Matter: Brazos County Line
    • Matter: Waller County Line
the scope is narrowed to include all of the objects that are contained in Brazos County Line plus all of the objects that are found in Waller County Line.
  • When you enter more than one filter from different filter categories, the scope uses the Boolean AND to narrow the results. For example, if you use both of these filters:
    • Matter: Brazos County Line
    • Timekeeper: John Doe
the scope is narrowed to include objects that contain both Brazos County Line and timekeeper John Doe. No other timekeeper in that matter is included, only John Doe; no other matter for which John Doe is a timekeeper is included, only Brazos County Line.
