OpenJDK 11 End of Life Remediation

This guide provides an important update regarding changes to our Java Development Kit (JDK) version requirements for TeamConnect, along with our future plans.

Announcement

We're pleased to announce that in 2024's TeamConnect release, TeamConnect will be certified with Java 17 systems/servers. However, to support major Java features, we will be updating to Java 21 next year.

To ensure full support for TeamConnect with Java 21, we'll be reconfiguring core libraries and methods, including spring updates, which will also necessitate some architectural rework. Therefore, in order to proceed with JDK21, an upgrade to a future version of TeamConnect will be required.

JDK Transition (OpenJDK End of Life in October 2024)
  • Description: OpenJDK 11 will reach its end of life in October 2024.
  • Recommendation: We recommend transitioning to JDK 1.8 as a proactive measure for your current version of TeamConnect.
  • Benefits: This ensures a smooth upgrade process as we add support for for JDK 17 in 2024 & JDK 21 in 2025.
  • Action Required: Please note that our third-party support matrix will be updated to reflect OpenJDK 11's end-of-life status.
No Immediate Risk with JDK 1.8/Oracle Java 1.8
  • Stability: JDK 1.8 is stable and well-established, with continued support.
  • Assurance: Transitioning poses no immediate risk, and we are committed to a seamless process.
Strategic Decision on JDK Major Version Update to 21
  • Challenges Addressed: Major back-to-back updates can pose challenges, and JDK 1.8 provides a reliable interim solution.
  • Plan: To minimize impact, we will certify JDK 17 for TeamConnect version 7.2 and plan to fully support JDK 21 in 2025. This will provide long-term support, greater stability, and more security overall.

If you have any questions or concerns about this transition or future upgrade plans, please reach out to your Strategic Account Managers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter and thank you for your continued partnership.
