Managing User Fields
You can manage user fields in the modules main grid with the following buttons within the User Fields UI:
-
Remove User Field Preferences
-
Enable/Disable UserFields
-
Set User Fields limit
These buttons let you remove user fields from the modules main grid, control if user fields can be added to the main grid, and limit the number of user fields that can appear in the main grid, which is the module landing page.
The following image is an example of the Matters module main grid.

Make User Fields Available on the Grid
By default, user fields don’t appear on the module main grid, instead, they appear on the wizard to create a new matter, entity, person, among other objects. This procedure configures an existing user field as available in the module main grid. To add a new user field, see Creating a User-defined Field and Creating Parent-Child Lookup Codes with User Fields.
-
Open Suite Manager and select User Fields under System Configuration.
-
Select a field and click Configure.

3. Select the Available for Grid checkbox to enable the user field to appear in the module landing page, also known as grid.

- Click Save and Close.
Note: See Restore a User Field if the user field doesn’t appear in the grid.
Remove User Field Preferences
By default, if user fields are added to a module grid, Suite searches for data in the user fields. The Remove User Field Preferences button disables searching and sorting of user fields in the module grid by removing all user fields in all the grids.
Note: The Remove User Field Preferences button disables searching and sorting of all user fields in all modules, you can’t choose to disable user fields by module.
To disable searching and sorting in all user fields:
-
Open Suite Manager and select User Fields under System Configuration.
-
Select Remove User Fields Preferences and confirm the warning message.
Restore a User Field
If you disable all user fields in all grids by using Remove User Fields Preferences, or if you configured user fields to be available in the grid, you can add user fields manually by using the Options setting within the main module grid. This procedure adds a user field to a module main grid.
- Open eCounsel or Secretariat and select a module, such as:
- Matters
- People
- Entities
- On the main grid, select Options.

- Select the user fields and click on the double arrows >>.

- Click Ok.
Enable/Disable User Fields
When you disable the user fields in a grid, the user fields disappear from the main grid and they disappear from the Options settings within the grid, that is, you can’t add them to the main grid.
Use Enable/Disable User Fields to select the grid that will have user fields enabled. This procedure enables the user fields in the module grid:
-
Open Suite Manager and select User Fields under System Configuration.
-
Select Enable/Disable User Fields.
-
Select the checkbox of the modules that you want to enable.

- Select Save.
Set User Fields Limit
Set User Fields Limit configures the maximum number of user fields that a main module grid can contain, ranging from 1 to 25. Note that Set User Fields Limit doesn’t remove user fields from the main module grid if the number of user fields in the grid surpasses the limit configured, instead, Set User Fields Limit only applies to a grid where the limit hasn’t been reached.
To configure Set User Fields Limit:
-
Open Suite Manager and select User Fields under System Configuration.
-
Click Set User Fields Limit.
-
Enter a number between 1 and 25.
