Full Text Indexing (Crawler)

'Store content for full text searching' is an option in the General Properties >General Details section of the Data Definition Editor. When this box is selected, any data you index will also run through the full-text crawler. The crawler takes text from the data you are indexing and stores it separately in the database. This data is then used, when searching, to search the actual content of the data rather than just the configured index fields. This provides a search-engine type ability on the data, but also requires extra storage overhead to store the extra text in the database.

Full Text Indexing

(See also, "Full Text Indexing Schedule")

Full Text Indexing, in Management Studio’s Configuration section, is where you create and manage Full Text Indexing Schedules. Full Text Indexing enables Key Word, Phrase and Sentence searching to be performed on all stored OCR, TIFF, Microsoft Office® and Adobe PDF® files.

Full Text Indexing Schedule

A Full Text Indexing Schedule (when active, i.e. when enabled in Management Studio’s Configuration, Full Text Indexing Options section), scrolls through all stored OCR, TIFF, Microsoft Office® and Adobe PDF® files and performs Full Text Indexing at pre-set time slots for a pre-set duration.

Full Text Searching

To search the actual content of the data rather than just the configured index fields. This provides search-engine type functionality on the data.
