Tree View: Devices Selected

Here's how to select devices from Tree View.

Select Devices from the tree view.

When Devices is selected in the tree view, the Available Devices are listed in the centre pane. Select a Device to see the Device’s General Properties listed in the pane on the right – see “Properties (Device)”.

Refresh Button

Refreshes the information in the Available Devices pane.

View Button

The View button changes the way the Available Devices information is displayed.

Large Icon

The Available Devices are displayed as icons.
A Device configured with Fixed allocation has the following icon.

A Device configured with Free allocation has the following icon.

A Device configured with Percentage allocation has the following icon.

Details

The details of the available Devices are displayed.

Tile

A Device configured with Free allocation has the following tile.

Details are listed in the following order:

  1. Device name.
  2. Allocation type: Free, Fixed or Percentage.
  3. Device size (Not Specified is shown when the Device allocation is configured as Free).
  4. Date created.
  5. Free space.

New Device Button

When you select New Device, the Add New Device pane is displayed.

Table 136. Terminology: Add New Device

Term

Meaning

Device type

Select a Device type:

  • Windows Device – a Windows partition or Hard Disk Drive.
  • DataStore32 Device – a Hard Disk Drive containing DataStore32 data.

Device name

Enter an easily identifiable name for the Device. Maximum 256 characters.

Device path

Select the path to the device by selecting the … button.
A Windows Device (i.e., a device on a partition on a Windows computer C:, D:, etc.) is created in a folder on the selected partition.

Device size properties

Free

Select Free if the you want the device size to be unrestricted – up to the physical limit of the free space on the selected partition.

Fixed (GB)

Select Fixed (GB) if you want the Device size to be restricted to the specified limit. Select the Fixed size from the menu.

Percentage

Select Percentage if you want the Device size to restricted to the selected percentage of the free space (at the time of creation) on the selected partition or device. For example, if the Hard Disk Drive has 500GB free, but you want the device to use just 250GB, select Percentage and enter 50 for the percentage value.

Edit Device Button

Note: The Edit Device button is active only when a Device is selected from the Available Devices pane.

The Edit Device pane is displayed.

The Device properties are displayed. Only the Device name field can be edited, see Table 136 "Terminology: Add New Device" for details on the items displayed.
